The American League West is a division of the American League featuring the west coast teams the Anaheim Angels, the Oakland Athletics, the Seattle Mariners and the Texas Rangers.

The division was created along with the AL East when the league expanded in 1969.

1969:

1970-1971: Seattle franchise moved to Milwaukee just prior to start of '70 season.

Wildcards

The wildcard entry to the Major League postseason was introduced in 1994, but AL West teams did not take advantage until the Mariners took it in 2000. The A's and Angels followed in 2001 and 2002.
