The ground was the location of the first National League game on April
22, 1876 between the Philadelphia Athletics and the Boston
baseball club. Boston won the game 6-5.
Bank One Ballpark
in Phoenix was not the first to have a swimming pool just over the
outfield fence. There was one just beyond the right field fence at the
Jefferson Street Ground. The Diamondbacks rent it out at a reported $4K
per game. It is unknown if the Athletics received additional revenue
streams from the pool.
The ground is currently the site of the Daniel Boone Public School.
Our sites have always been by you and about you. If
you check
our TV Forums or our Technology & Science forums, you'll find literally thousands of messages from fans
of 1970s TV shows, survivors of hurricanes or aircraft accidents, etc. from all over the world sharing their memories, asking
questions, making comments. Our baseball section is new, but don't let
that stop you from sharing
your memories of the first game you went to, your favorite player, a
now-forgotten stadium, etc. Of course you can also ask questions, post
trivia, tell the world what you think of Barry Bonds, or just read what
others are saying.

EAKINS
Philadelphia-based artist Thomas Eakins painted 'Baseball Players Practicing' in 1875. It presumably depicts the Jefferson Street Grounds.
