Who Am I?
I won 200 games mostly for the Angels despite being beat up by my actress wife.

Major League Baseball Attendance for 1900

Here are the attendance figures by team/stadium for the National League for the 1900 season. Where a team used more than one stadium, figures are for all home games.

You can also view figures for 1899 or 1901 and a complete list of years is here.

Team Stadium Attendance
Philadelphia Phillies Baker Bowl 301,913
St. Louis Cardinals Robison Field 270,000
Pittsburgh Pirates Exposition Park 264,000
Chicago Orphans West Side Park II 248,577
Boston Beaneaters South End Grounds III 202,000
New York Giants Polo Grounds IV 190,000
Brooklyn Superbas Washington Park III 183,000
Cincinnati Reds League Park II in Cincinnati 170,000

Although the American League of 1900 considered itself a minor league, we have stats for it. These attendance figures are from the October 27, 1900 Sporting Life.
Team Stadium Attendance
Chicago White Sox 124,000
Detroit Wolverines 104,000
Milwaukee Brewers 88,000
Kansas City Blues 84,000
Indianapolis Hooisers 76,000
Cleveland Lake Shores 60,000
Buffalo Bisons 56,000
Minneapolis Millers 40,000

In an article entitled Cat Out Of Bag, Sporting Life, through the work of an editor of the Chicago Daily News claimed that they had the real attendance figures of the American League. "Under the rules of the American League, each club must turn over to the League 10 per cent of each admission, averaged at 25 cents, to defray the expenses of umpires, the League president and other matters." Naturally teams wanted to inflate their attendance figures to the public so that they could be seen to be a success (and the inflated figures are available elsewhere). But at the same time individual teams wanted to keep from paying too much to the league. Since these appear to be the numbers officially reported to Ban Johnson, I'll go with them.

Share Your Memories!

Our sites have always been by you and about you. If you check our TV Forums or our Technology & Science forums, you'll find literally thousands of messages from fans of 1970s TV shows, survivors of hurricanes or aircraft accidents, etc. from all over the world sharing their memories, asking questions, making comments. Our baseball section is new, but don't let that stop you from sharing your memories of the first game you went to, your favorite player, a now-forgotten stadium, etc. Of course you can also ask questions, post trivia, tell the world what you think of Barry Bonds, or just read what others are saying.
