Academy Awards for 1979By Patrick Mondout
The 52nd Annual Academy Awards were hosted by Johnny Carson
on April 14, 1980
at the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion (Los Angeles) and broadcast live on ABC.
Kramer vs. Kramer was the big winner
with five Academy Awards including Best Picture, Actor, Supporting
Actress, and Screenplay.
Note: All nominees are listed and
denotes the Oscar winner.

Other Awards
A Special Achievement Award for Sound Editing was handed out to Alan
Splet for his work on The Black Stallion.
The Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award was won by Ray Stark while Robert
Benjamin won the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.
Honorary Awards were bestowed to Hal Elias "for his dedication and
distinguished service to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and
Sciences", to Alec Guinness "for advancing the art of screen
acting through a host of memorable and distinguished performances",
and to John O. Aalberg, Charles G. Clarke and John G. Frayne "in
appreciation for outstanding service and dedication in upholding the high
standards of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences."
