1972 Kellogg's BaseballBy Patrick Mondout
Once again Kellogg's released a memorable set that was filled with
corrected error cards. In fact, nearly 40% of the cards were corrected in
later printings! The cards themselves are somewhat smaller (about
1/4" both ways) and the number of cards in a complete set dropped
from 75 to 54 in '72.
The cards were made available in boxes of Raisin Bran instead of Corn
Flakes. Collector's who bought box after box of Corn Flakes in 1970 to
complete the set were sucker-punched at the end of the season when
Kellogg's made the cards available to dealers. They thought they had
Kellogg's figured out and waited for the same thing to happen in 1971.
They felt sucker-punched when it didn't and scrambled to complete sets.
This time they reverted to their 1970 behavior and bought the boxes of
cereal immediately when the cards were introduced. Kellogg's followed its
1970 behavior and sold quantities of the cards at the end of the season to
dealers!
Here's a checklist of 1972 Kellogg's 3D cards. A brief
