JuliaBy Wikipedia
Julia was a groundbreaking television series which was
the first to show an African American main character in a
non-stereotypical role. The show starred actress and singer Diahann
Carroll and ran on NBC from 1968 to 1971.
In the past, other series, such as Beulah, had the main characters as
maids, or other subservient roles. In Julia, Carroll played a single
mother who was a nurse in a doctor's office. The doctor was played by
Lloyd Nolan, and Julia's romantic interests by Paul Winfield and Fred
Williamson. We've not had time to write about this TV show yet. If you were a fan, we'd love to have you help us out by writing a synopsis or review! |

I've only seen one episode of this show. It was a Christmas episode. Julia's son and another little boy argued whether Santa Claus was black or white. I recall this situation being handled very intelligently and non-biased. I would have liked to catch other episodes of this show. The late 60's and early to mid Super70s television programming was the best there ever was. --Tim Duncan | Note: This is just a random sample of the Julia messages in our TV forums!
