Filmed on location, Assignment Vienna starred Robert Conrad as Jake Webster, an American spy whose cover was that he owned Jake's Barr & Grill. He had a shady past and was as uneasy working with his handler, Major Caldwell (Charles Cioffi) as his handler was working with him. But Caldwell had the goods on Webster and could get him to do missions with the threat of imprisonment if he did not.
