Barbary CoastBy Patrick Mondout
This western starring William 'Captain Kirk' Shatner and Doug McClure
was set in the other Super70s - the 1870s in San Francisco. In either
decade, the city by the bay was a wild place. But the one square mile area
of the city known as the Barbary Coast was particularly full of hot
chicks, hotheads, and desperados. Or so the short-lived show's producers
led us to believe.
McClure played Cash Conover, the owner of the Golden Gate Casino - an
establishment we are led to believe he won in a poker game. Shatner plays
undercover agent Jeff Cable. He works for the governor and is adept at
disguising himself.
Barbary Coast was cancelled in January of 1976 due to disappointing
ratings.
