"I wish that our pension was looked at as closely as the employees of Enron. It was taken over by The Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp. and now has a deficit of $11 billion. I also remember alot of flight attendants carrying a huge financial burden at time of closure. Some being stuck in cities and having to get back to their home base in order to back up belongings and have them shipped home. It was a terrible time with very little emotional support from the community. I feel more sorry for Eastern Airlines employees than I do the Enron employees. " --Weaver | "I am the son of a former Easter Airlines employee. I absoultely loved that airline. Since I was a son of an employee, we were allowed to fly standby for zero. This means that if there was space available- we flew- otherwise- we sat for the next flight. I never flew coach until I was 13 when we traveled to Austrailia. First class all the time before that. It was great - wide seats, all the soda or drinks we wanted. The people that my mother worked with were a great bunch. I would go to work sometimes with her and follow around the operations crew. Those were the times. I wished that they were still in business. " --Partsmgr | "My dad was an Eastern Airlines employee from 1978 to the liquidation of the company. We would ride on passes all over the country. My dad reminded me that when I was young and we were waiting for our flight I would want to wait until there was a plane with seats available in first class. He he, and pass up planes that had coach seats. Its a great reminder of how simple and pure life was then and part of it was Eastern. I memorized every type of plane by looking at it because I absoulutely loved to fly and I was proud of my dad's role as an Inventory Control Specialist. He knew airplane parts very well.
